Student Responsibilities
- Follow the directions the first time given.
- Keep hands, feet, other body parts and objects to yourself at all times.
- Use classroom equipment.
- Respect and treat equipment and school property with pride.
- Always use positive words and language.
- Respect games that are currently in progress.
- All electronic devices need to stay inside the classroom.
- Dispose of all trash in cans.
- Stay within field boundaries.
- Students must walk on the blacktop.
- During recess, students will sit at a table or planter when eating.
- During lunch, students will finish their lunch before being dismissed to the playground.
- 1 st Bell- STOP and WALK to line.
- 2 nd Bell- Students are in line, calm body ready to walk inside and LEARN.
Handball
- Two or four players at all times.
- Use school handballs.
- Fair ball inside the white lines.
- Serving:
- Winner Serves.
- Two attempts per serve.
- Ball must hit ground and wall before opponents return.
- Ball may bounce twice on serve.
- Servers get three wins then switch out.
- Ball may bounce twice on serve.
- Slices are the only tricks allowed.
- Players waiting in line need to stand outside court boundaries.
- No substitutions, chances or “lives.”
Swings
- One person on swing at a time.
- Person must give another student opportunity
- After 30 (primary) or 60 (upper grade) swings. *1 forward and 1 back equals one swing
- After getting counted on, switch swings.
- Person waiting stands by pole and away from swings.
- Face school while swinging.
- Climbing on poles, holding hands, twisting, jumping from, running under or standing on swings will result in loss of privilege.
Play Structure
- Walk in structure area on wood chips at all time.
- Tag games are prohibited on play structure.
- One person at a time on slide, facing forward and on your bottom.
- Cross monkey bars in one direction.
- Playing tag, flipping off of or hanging upside down on bars, or jumping from structure will result in loss of play privilege.
Soccer
- First come/first serve for field use.
- Game may be played with one or two goalies per goal.
- Only goalie may use hands on ball.
- Avoid soccer field if not playing in game.
- Stop play if someone is injured – resume play with throw in or kick at point of injury.
- Using hands (except goalie), slide tackles, excessive pushing, climbing on nets and goal posts will result in loss of play privilege.
Four-Square
- Play starts when server bounces ball, then hits it underhand to any square.
- Ball must be hit with one or both hands.
- Everyone must be in position before the ball is served.
- Ball must bounce once in square before player hits it.
- Switching courts or frozen four-square is only allowed for tying shoes, bathroom, helping someone that is injured, etc.
- Taking the ball, kicking the ball, and team partnering are not permitted.
- Re-serve for interference from outside, unintentional pegs, or liners.
- The hitter is out if they bounce the ball over a players head.
Hopscotch
- Each player uses a marker to throw.
- Marker is fair if it lands inside the lines.
- First player gets one chance to throw marker onto 1 st square. If missed, try next turn.
- If fair, begin by hopping on one foot, avoiding 1 st square. Hop on all other squares in order.
- If two squares are next to each other, use both feet at the same time.
- If you make it all the way through, pick up your marker, wait for next turn.
- Players, who have successfully hopped, move to the next highest square on their next turn.
Basketball
- First come, first serve for court use.
- Minimum of 10 players for full court, maximum of 16 for closed court.
- Under 10 players, use half court.
- Deliberate pushing or kicking results in immediate loss of play.
- After a team makes a basket, the other team takes the ball to the center or out of bounds.
- If a foul occurs while shot is being made, two free shots for foul.
- Charging, traveling, and double-dribbles result in a throw-in by other team.
- Offense calls fouls.
- If a ball is in the air moving towards the basket when the bell rings, it counts.
Flag/Touch Football
- Game is played as flag or two-hand touch football.
- Use caution and safety when blocking.
- Whoever recovers a fumble gains possession of the ball.
- There is only one “player on player” coverage.
- Players carrying the ball may not straight arm, run through or jump over people.
- Any rough play such as tackling, pushing, tripping other players, diving on the ball to recover it, holding, or blocking pass receiver will result in loss of privilege.
Tether Ball
- There are two players for each game.
- Players choose which ½ of the court is theirs and stay in those boundaries.
- As long as the ball is on your side, you can hit it.
- Server decides which direction to start play.
- After the first game, the winner serves and can have up to 3 wins.
- Do a clean hit and play hard.
- In primary, ball must circle pole 1 time before server catches the ball.
- In upper grade, ball circles the pole 2 times before the server catches the ball.
- Game over when person hits ball until rope is gone.
- Touching or pushing up rope on pole, holding the ball, volleyball taps, setting the ball up for yourself, hanging or sitting on tetherball, climbing pole, cutting or saving places in line or using ropies and easies will result in loss of privilege.
