Title 1

Dear Alderwood Families,

Alderwood is identified as a Schoolwide Title I School.  Identified Title I schools are eligible to receive Title I funds if the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch is at least as high as the district average. Title I schools receive additional financial assistance to help ensure that all students meet our challenging Common Core State Standards. As an identified Schoolwide Title I School, Alderwood has received additional funding to support schoolwide programs and systems of support.

What is a schoolwide program? A schoolwide Title I program can be established in order to improve the overall educational program of the entire school, without having to target a specific group of children as eligible beneficiaries. Although schools are not required to identify “eligible” students, they are required to address the needs of students at risk of not meeting the rigorous academic achievement standards. By implementing a schoolwide program in Irvine schools and at Alderwood, we will shift our focus from identifying individual students and supports, to looking at the overall needs of a school and how Title I funds can support closing the achievement gap for all students.

School Site Council has approved Alderwood's Parent Notification and our Title I School and Parent Engagement Policy. Please click below for more information.

If you have any questions regarding Title I at Alderwood you can contact our Title I Coordinators, Principal, Mrs. Kelli Cheshire, KelliCheshire@iusd.org or Assistant Principal, Mrs. Melissa Zakhar, MelissaZakhar@iusd.org

Sincerely,

Kelli Cheshire

Principal

information about the qualifications of the classroom staff working with your child.

At Alderwood, we are very proud of our teachers and feel they are ready for the coming school

year, and are prepared to give your child a high-quality education. As a Title I School, we must meet

federal regulations related to teacher qualifications. These regulations allow you to learn more about your

subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction,

  • Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.

You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this

assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the

Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1956 (ESEA), includes additional right-to- know requests. At any

time parents and family members can request:
